Domestic Iranian banks received a ban request from the Central Bank of Iran: all cryptocurrency activities will be banned, due to the concerns of money laundering, which were first announced in this country.
Banks and any other financial institutions shall refrain from cryptocurrency exchange, any cryptocurrency related activities, including cryptocurrency promotion. The government believes, that all cryptocurrencies can be without any significant complications be turned into the means of terrorism financing and money laundering.
Though, specialists see one more reason for cryptocurrency blocking: Iran is expecting new sanctions from the USA side and is trying to secure the national financial stability. At the moment, any exchange operations outside of banks are forbidden, official and open market rates are unified, efforts are made to avoid any finance related issues both inside as well as outside of the country.
